Social Media Convergence – Blogging and Social Utilities

If you’re like many business owners and operators, you got into the world of blogging some time ago, perhaps incorporating a blog into your own business website, or at least linking your blog with your website. If you haven’t done these things, it’s time to give it some consideration. It’s also time to take count of the benefits of merging your different social media activities, including your blog and your other social utility pages.

Including a Blog on Your Website

Successfully promoting a business through a blogsite requires that the blog and your business website be closely associated with one another. This can be accomplished in several ways. If you have the hosting capability on your website, consider incorporating the blog as simply another tab on that site.

If you need to have a separate blogsite, be sure to include:
(1) clearly marked links to your business website in several places on the blog,

(2) contact information for your business on the main blog page, including a clickable link to the homepage of your business website,

(3) and incorporate links to various product or service pages on your business website in the content of the blog posts themselves, always ensuring that the links you do include remain active, as dead links kill your internet marketing efforts.

Linking Your Blog with other Social Media

Whether your blog is part of your business website or hosted on a blogging network like Blogger or any of the profession-oriented blogging community sites, ensure that you link your blog to your various social media pages, as well. This includes permanent links in your social media profiles, as well as feed posts on your social media status updates.

Converging Social Media Activities

One of the best ways to keep all your social media pages active is to multitask. Using new blog posts as status updates on LinkedIn, Facebook and Google+, or as Tweets on Twitter, is one way of saving time and promoting your business through the convergence of social media activities.

If you include videos, graphics and other dynamic media in your blog posts, you can even post links to different component parts of blog entries to your social media at different times. Taking this approach helps keep your social media accounts active and potentially attracts the attention of various followers and visitors who have different interests.

Including Social Media Features in Your Blog Posts

In response to consumer interest, many of the major social media utilities already provide merging capabilities. For instance, businesses that have a Facebook, Twitter and Blogger account are able to merge their accounts in order to automatically update all accounts through a single action.

If you’re not currently taking advantage of this capability, you’ll want to put this strategy into action for the future. Additionally, if you have a blog on your business website, you can utilize the free plugins available from Facebook, Twitter and other social media utilities to create a more dynamic website and one that will save you time and money in your overall social media marketing activities.
