Microsoft has now announced the availability of the window 8 consumer preview for download at Microsoft.com for those who can’t wait the official release.Windows 8 high-speed with low power microprocessor also will run on tablets as well as desktops and labtops designed by ARM Holdings Plc.
Windows 8 to be coming in two flavors, first one works on the traditional x86 chips for desktops and laptops made by intel corp. next one, a new version for the ARM Microprocessors that have standard for tablets, Smartphone’s and other portable devices.

System Requirements:
According to the window 8 FAQ, any machine prepared with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of Hard disk space and 1GHZ processor should able to run windows 8. Incase you would like to install 64-bit version RAM should be 2GB minimum requirements.
