4 Things To Consider While Designing A Mobile App

One of the crucial aspects of a mobile app is its design. Although designing a mobile app is no rocket science, designers tend to forget the basics, which can mar their efforts to design apps having high usability.

Basically, designers have their own guidelines, which they follow while designing a mobile app. But alongside these guidelines, there are certain requirements which all designersmust keep in mind in order to design a mobile app with universal appeal.

Let us take a look at four such things the designers must consider.

Aim For High Resolution

Mobile devices, irrespective of their platform, have a high pixel density and offer brilliant resolution, for e.g. iPad, iPhone, Galaxy S3 etc. With rapid advancements in mobile technology, the resolutions of mobile devices have also improved by leaps and bounds. It can be concluded that the screen resolutions of forthcoming mobile devices will continue to improve in the future, as well. This calls for mobile appdesigns that conform to high resolution devices.

One of the better ways of accomplishing such designs is to create mobile apps for high-resolution screens first and scale down gradually for low resolution screen devices.

Keep The Touch-Screen Factor In Mind

Do not forget that most mobile devices today, have touch screen interfaces. The end-users make use of certain finger movements (gestures) to perform various tasks on their devices. So, the apps need to have a design which provides maximum comfort to the users.

What you as a designer can do is, make sure that the buttons or other navigation features you are using in the app are big enough and evenly spaced, which makes the app easy to operate by the users.

Don’t Go Overboard With Intro-Animations

Excess of anything is bad. It holds true for Intro animations too. Although they are fun, they delay the use of the app. It is rare to find users who actually wait for the animation to get over and then use the app.

However, if you still want to use such animation in your app then make sure it loads fast and captivates the audience, which makes the app worth waiting for. Implement it well in the app to avoid any technical snags, which can ruin the effect of your app from the beginning itself.

Maintain Consistency

Each mobile operating system is unique in its own way. When you design your app, make sure that it maintains consistency across all the operating systems. This is due to the reason that app conversions (from one OS to another) can often fail and consequently irk the users.

Which sensible designer would want this to occur?

Take care that your app performs well on any operating system that it runs on. Maintain its look, feel and other aesthetics across all platforms, so that it is equally intuitive and responsive across various mobile platforms.

Apart from these four suggestions given above, you can also go for other tips to design your mobile app efficiently for the end-users.
