1. Turn off Geolocation.
Don’t you think that you needn’t every application to determine your location? A complete list of such apps can be found in Settings → Geolocation. Feel free to turn off the apps you do not need. Leave geolocation only where you really use it. For example, Path, Maps, Instagram.
But that's not all. Scroll down to the bottom and you will find the tab System Services. You can turn off everything except the item Search in Networks.
2. Get rid of the Push-Notifications.
Here the situation is practically the same as in the previous point. Go to Options → Notifications, and turn off all three types of notifications for all the unnecessary apps.
By the way, if you use Sparrow, it makes sense to disable Push for standard mail. This can be done in Settings → E-mail, addresses, calendars.
3. DisablePhotostream.
Photostreamis one of the components of iCloud which automatically uploads new pictures into the cloud if your phone is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Sometimes it is very useful and convenient, but if you do not see any benefits for yourself (personally I don’t), then the correct solution is to disable the Photostream. This can be done in Settings → iCloud → Photostream.
4. Stop playing games.
Games are the most resource-intensive applications, and therefore they kill the battery faster than anything else. Having stopped playing games you will not only increase the life of your iPhone but also will get more free time and extra money to buy really useful programs and applications for the iPhone or Mac.
5. Turn off automatic downloads of Programs.
This function is located in the Settings → Shop and allows you to automatically download via Wi-Fi or 3G software, music, and books that were purchased on another device (iPad, Mac). Sometimes it’s a useful thing, but in most cases you may skip it.
6. Make sure that Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth don’t float.
It goes without commenting. If you don’t use it – then turn it off.
7. Set the optimal brightness for yourself.
Surely the darker is the betterbut you shouldn’t save on your health and comfort. Choose the best variant for yourself. And make sure that the Auto-Brightness is on – it will change the settings according to external lighting.
8. Turn off Equalizer.
The processing of the audio stream requires additional system resources which, in its turn, affects the battery life. By default, the equalizer is disabled, but you might have turned it on some time and forgot to switch it off. Check it in Options → Music → Equalizer.
What results can you get? For example, my iPhone 4 (which is not really new) managed to live for 3 days in a standby mode and 10 hours in usage mode.
