Attaching “Fun” to our websites
I often wonder, how applicable and practical, as a professional, is to add fun to work. To create an enjoyable experience we have the ability to produce something that is delightful and is shared with others.
Defining “Fun”
Let’s back up a bit, and start with the meaning of the term “fun.” Fun does not mean converting the website into a circus production. It is simply adding the constituent fun into interactions and to the website design. The website thus fabricated would be more enjoyable to use.
Fun is not equal to silly
Fun in website design is not similar to “silly.” The process is to add a layer of delight to the user experience without projecting childishness or unprofessionalism. The trick here, is to be aware of how much fun to add, where and when to add and to be able to determine its boundary.
Improving the Ordinary
Most websites have some generic pages like the about us, the contact us etc. Making it memorable by adding a touch of sense and personality would spruce up and enhance the user experience.
Can Frustration be equal to Fun?
Typical “404 Error” pages can be disintegrated and redeveloped as a page with some personality. This would diffuse the frustrating situation and with a good message, you can even make your viewer smile. This would also assist them in finding their way back to the relevant content.
Searching Fun?
Google is the best-known search engine. The corporation has been successfully delivering search results with some fun tactics. From the whimsical Google doodles, to the interactive experiences, the Christmas lights, Pac man or tribute to the legend Alan Turing, Google believes fun to be part of their experience. Commencing from the words “askew,” “zerg rush” or “do a barrel” Google, Inc. has a dozen gems hidden into its search engine.
The reason for the success of Google is its ability to make fun “unobtrusive” to the viewers. It just puts it out there; however, the service is never compromised. Adding fun elements means ensuring that it does not interfere with the normal functionalities.
An OTT approach?
Fun should be integrated to the right amount. Too much can have the exact opposite effect. But there are websites when over the top can work both for the brand and the company. Funny illustrations and interactions can make the website scream “Personality.”
The potential pitfall is the inability to find what the company actually does. Animated characters responding when scrolled, with signature taglines, can make the overall experience delightful. Fresh interfaces backed with code are what make these Website Design Software Solutions dedicated to the experience of the user.
Memorable message
The design of the website needs to be supported by a message that convenes the purpose. The website design should be striking made by reinforcing animations, graphics etc.
Can all websites be integrated with fun?
Most designers would argue that in their projects they have no place to integrate fun. This is also true for certain websites wherein “Fun” maybe a bit difficult to sell. By allowing the consumer view, certain content with illustrative animations can certainly piqué their curiosity and prompt them to engage in interaction. Another approach is to create infographics that delivers messages across is an efficacious way than the static paragraphs.
Sensitive matters make adding fun a difficult mix. Without jeopardizing the message or the seriousness of the situation, the websites can be designed with benefits and pitfalls of emotions.
Designing the “Unforgettable”
A web experience, which is usable, is no more important than an edible meal. To strive to create an exceptional design is the motto of most web designers. To create the effectual results that is amazing and unforgettable, don’t forget to have some “fun.”
